Basic Class Overview: Motivation and
Leadership - This course explores the motivational and leadership skills managers must possess to meet challenges and to take
advantage of opportunities found in today’s rapidly changing and increasingly global organizations. There is an emphasis
on recognizing differences, valuing workforce diversity, and identifying assumptions and practices that may need to be modified
when managing in different countries. It also explores strategies for improving workforce quality and productivity by empowering
employees through personal development and organizational change programs. Team Dynamics for Managers - This
course provides an exploration into how managers and employees work in groups for the completion of organizational objectives.
Emphasis is placed on the growing dependency on self-directed work teams in the workplace. This course equips students with
the ability to manage work teams, work in teams successfully, and to obtain results via team dynamics. In addition, impacts
upon customer satisfaction are explored. Conflict Resolution - No one wants to be faced with
conflict, but when we are, those with conflict resolution training fare better than those who haven’t had the training.
Many don’t know how to react when faced with conflict, and often it ends in some sort of violence or at least verbal
threats. With conflict resolution training, the hope is to stop much of that and teach participants to relate better and be
able to settle their differences non-violently. Cultural Diversity in the Workplace - The focus
of this course is an exploration of cross-cultural issues and diversity to help create a positive foundation for understanding
and working effectively with others. Cultural issues, including values, beliefs, and practices impacting individuals,
groups, and communities, are discussed. Case studies and other applications are examined, particularly as these relate
to the workplace and to professional practice. The course includes experiential learning designed to increase understanding
and appreciation of differing cultures.
